INBRE Announces 2013-2014 Research Assistantship Awards

Funding for graduate research assistantships were awarded to eight UW researchers for 2013-2014. The awards support graduate students conducting biomedical-related research under the mentorship of the faculty recipient. Awardees include Debashis Dutta (Chemistry),  David Fay (Molecular Biology), Jay Gatlin (Molecular Biology), Mark Gomelsky and Anya Lyuksyutova (Molecular Biology), Wei Guo (Animal Sciences), Dan Levy (Molecular Biology), Qian-Quan Sun (Zoology and Physiology), and Naomi Ward (Molecular Biology).

INBRE Community College Fall Retreat Scheduled September 12-14.

The 9th Annual Wyoming INBRE Research Network Fall Retreat has been scheduled for September 12-14, 2013 at the University of Wyoming/ National Park Service Research Station in Grand Teton National Park. The annual meeting provides a venue for students to present results of summer research, plans for fall/spring projects, learn about and provide feedback on INBRE programs and opportunities, and network in a beautiful setting with undergraduate researchers from across Wyoming. More details will be posted as they become available.

INBRE funded UW undergraduate student wins award at international C. elegans conference


A University of Wyoming undergraduate student was one of two undergraduates (out of 44) to win an outstanding poster award at the International Caenorhabditis elegans Conference in Los Angeles, CA. Pushpa Khanal's INBRE supported research in the laboratory of Dr. David Fay in the Department of Molecular Biology was presented in the poster titled "The Role of SYM-3 and SYM-4 in Tissue Integrity and Organogenesis". There were 1,800 attendees at the meeting.

2013-14 Transition Scholars Selected

Five Community College students have been selected to receive Wyoming INBRE UW-Wyoming Community College Transition Scholar Awards beginning fall 2013. They each will recieve support for 2 years while pursuing their bachelors degree in a biomedical-related discipline interning in INBRE supported research projects during their time on campus. Students received the awards at the Wyoming INBRE Community College Research Network Luncheon at Wyoming Undergraduate Research Day. Recipients for 2013 are: Delina Barbosa, Casper College; James Erdmann, Laramie County Community College; Tetiana Hutchison, Central Wyoming College; Olivia Rogers,  Northwest College; and William Trebelcock, Laramie County Community College.
